Round 5 Teams Empty Bluetongues team

Post  arfer Fri Apr 09, 2010 8:25 am

Bluetongues team for this week. The lads have been working on their defence this week given how they were absolutely flattened by the Tanks last week.

This week we are hoping to take on the seasgulls....an interesting story follows this team that i found hilarious from last weeks episode of QI

Coote, Lachlan
Williams, Tony
Heremaia, Aaron
Graham, Ashley
Graham, Phil
Mortimer, Daniel
Hornby, Ben
Watmough, Anthony
Laffranchi, Anthony
Fensom, Shaun
Stuart, Luke
Farah, Robbie
Douglas, Luke
Lockyer, Darren
Barba, Ben
Smith, Cameron
Royal, Jesse
Smith, Cameron

Funny Story. from QI last week - ORNITHILOGICAL ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE PROPOSALS IN BRITAIN, 1915-18

Towards the end of WW1 when German submarines were first causing a menace to Allied naval vessels and the losses were becoming a real concern, the British Department of Defence (well - The Board of Invention and Research, National Morale and Public Involvement) thought of an idea to train seaguls to 'attack' and defecate on enemy periscopes - well at least to flock around them and alert Naval vessels that an enemy sub was about. The Governemnt organised for a remote corner of Poole harbour in Dorset to be littered with dummy periscopes and then tried to train incontinent seagulls.

I should say that this idea was thought up by an Aussie Gold Mining pioneer now in the British defence. and who had worked the music halls training monkeys and the like!!!!

Food processer thingies were attached to these dummy periscopes and divers would go out and release pieces of meat at which time the seagulls would attack the periscope.

It all seemed quite promising until the realisation set in that......
a) The seagulls were pooping over their own submarine periscopes as well as dummy German ones - Seagulls not being intelligent enough to distinguish between German and British subs (stupid birds)
b) they couldn't train all the seagulls they needed for the North Atlantic, and finally (and funniest)
c) a pigeon trainer popped in one day to tell the Department that seagulls were in fact not seabirds at all and that were land based and wouldn't be where the main threat was unless the enemy subs decided to come in to the harbour!!!

Showers vs Bears

Always a big one, and while the Showers can often be the bogey team for Jindabyne, the smart money seems to be on the Bears for this one (even though they have lost their inspirational skipper Michael Luck). It will no doubt be the Thurston vs Marshall show, so we'll see how they fare at Jindabyne Stadium for the game of the round.
