If you are in abidding war, you have until the cut-off to decide whether you will go on the attack and pay the dollars to secure the player in the bidding war, or pull out and bid on someone new. Once the clock has hit 5.30pm, you can only continue on the bidding if it is within the 30 minute deadline (if someone bids at 5.01pm, and you put your bid on that same player at 5.32pm, you are too late and it will not stand. If you bid at 5.30pm, that is within the 30 minutes, and everyone else has 30 minutes to respond. This continues until the high bid has lasted 30 minutes and the player will be allocated)
